The year is 1553 in Italy. The dark ages ended about 200 years earlier and the times known as the Renaissance is taking place in Europe. This is a time of learning and living. Many inventions and works of arts came out of this time period. In just over a hundred years the Renaissance will be drawing to a close with the ending of the Witch Trails in the America’s and the coming of the 1700’s.

At this time Christianity has survived and spread in over a thousand years and now an integrated part of everyday life. Many artist paint images of Go, Christ, Mary, and many other church symbols. Cathedrals and churches are built in stunning beauty and decorated with the finest. But there is much corruption within the church that causes major changes within the church structure. The church begins to branch out and change. With each branch comes new beliefs founded on the old. Each tries to stamp out corruption within and to attract people. Well as with all organizations with power, corruption and greed is not far away at all times, even for the holiest of men

The sun has just gone down as she steps out of the carriage. Her dress was black silk and in the style of the times, low cut at the top and the long flowing skirt. She truly did love this time period; its clothes, its art, the time for leaning. Her coal black hair had a light wave to it naturally but she curled it tightly as was expected of most woman. The carriage had pulled up in front of the large cathedral and she looked at it now with a smile.

Her hazel eyes scanned the others around her. She thought to herself so many clueless people that simply followed blindly, will they ever learn. Her red painted lips smiled a cold smile as she started to the doors. She could hear to shrieks of an old hag at the bottom the stairs. The woman was there everyday preaching for the church. She claimed she had visions of the future. In her own experience she had learned that a good deal of those who claimed such as this woman, truly did have the visions.

Giving the woman little heed she began to walk up the stairs when she felt a hand touch her arm. She turned to find the woman falling away screaming. In most cases a cold stair from her was enough to keep people at bay, even more tonight because she had lined her eyes with the black makeup. Her eyes stood out enough and it often frightened people when she used the makeup, as if they could see what power she held. She stopped and stared at the woman has the hag stumbled back a few more steps and fell to her knees.

" YOU!!! YOU, I know you! You have come. This is not your place, this is the house of God. Leave us demon, leave. You are not welcome here. I know what you are….."

The rest of her words were a jumble of shrieks and crying. A guard came down the stairs looking at the hag. She had always been tolerated because she never brought no harm but now he could see she had gone too far. She had accused a Lady of such unspeakable crimes and had touched the lady. Bowing to her he seemed flustered and apologetic. He made the mistake of looking into her eyes as he turned to talk with her. His lips moved but no words came out, finally he did manage to stutter an apology

" I I I…I ammm ….I am sorry M’Lady…. She could not have meant such awful comments. She will not be bothering you again We only tolerated her because she never did more than talk. She will be dealt with."

He backed away slowly picking up the hag by the arm and half dragging her half carrying her down the streets. She watched them go with a smile on her face. If only he had known the truth. She brushed the encounter off as nothing yet it had shaken her some. That had been one of the reasons she had avoided such people, they knew and would not be kept silent. She knew she would have to find that woman tonight. The crowd around her slowly got over the shock and the women came to offer their sympathies and talk about how horrible that hag had been. A few men slowly followed congratulating the officer for doing his job but annoyed he had not done it sooner by letting her stay so long.

Slowly everyone headed into the cathedral to take their seats. As she walked between the pews she saw a bright blue eyed girl watching her. The child may have been about 7 or 8 with pretty curls in her blonde hair. Walking past the child she smiled, the mother must have seen her and scolded the child. It mattered to her none. Now that the excitement was over, people went out of their way to avoid her. It was an unconscious gesture but it happened all the same. She found a pew, not in the front nor in the back but somewhere around the middle.

Shortly afterward mass started when the priest came out. She sang the hymns and read along, said the prayers and said grace like all the others, the whole time with a playful smile on her face. Finally after almost an hour, mass was coming to a close. With a gesture from the priest people began to line up to take bread and wyne. It was time…..

She waited patiently as the line slowly got smaller and smaller, closer and closer to her. When it was her turn she sopped up and took the bread. The Priest had a smile on his face until he met her eyes. She was the last and for him it was a good thing. He stared in her eyes and he paled white, a look of horror came over his face. Smiling she moved on as he stood there dumbfounded. After a moment he was finally able to stumble through the last few minutes of mass.

The cathedral bells rang as everyone walked out. Everyone was talking about the Priest. They could see there had visibly something wrong with him but no one knew what it could be. The conclusion most the woman came to was he had an affair and the woman had come to him but for the life of them they could not figure out who it might have been. She had slipped their mind and by morning they would not even remember her.

She did not walk out as everyone else did, instead she waited till all others left and went to find the priest. He was in the hall just before his room when she caught up with him. She had been silent but he turned maybe out of intuition. If it was possible he paled three of four more shades. A playful but dark smile danced on her lips. Her words were soft yet there was a mocking tone to her voice. She walked to within three feet of him. He tried not to look in her eyes remembering what happened last time.

" What is wrong Father? You look so pale, as if you seen a ghost…… or maybe a demon? I was almost worried, I thought you might not be able to finish that wonderful mass."

He reached for his cross around his neck and began to pray in Latin. It was amusing for a few minutes because she could understand him but she soon tired of it. She quickly grabbed him around the neck and through him against the wall, his head hit hard enough to knock the breath out of him and daze him.

" Father, I really don’t have many patients for your prayers of forgiveness from a deaf god. Can’t you feel it? He has left this place and has not been here for a very long time. I can feel he was once here but greed and corruption have long destroyed the church that was founded for him, his servants, and his son. The church has long gotten away from his teachings and now only use his name in vain… use him as an excuse to rob these dumb sheep blind, an excuse to have power over people. I don’t blame him for leaving, this would shame me too."

His eyes had gone wide and her just stared at her unsure of what to do. Her mouth is open slightly and he can see her fangs. They are not like that of a vampire’s but instead like that of a feline. She could see the fear in his eyes and could feel his body shaking. Slowly she stepped back letting the priest lean against the wall for support. He stills clutches his cross but he is silent now, watching her every move. She looks at him for a moment before smiling again.

" When I leave you, go to your room and I want you to write a letter to the Pope. Send the letter tonight without a delay. I warn you now and you get only one waning. Tell him of what has happened today. Tell him the Angels weep at the sight of God’s churches. They now grow restless to avenge the wrongs against their God and they will come. If things do not change then things will not survive. The Angles can see the demons that have slithered into the church halls and now rule the house of God. Demons have slithered into the bed of Priest and lie there waiting to whisper to the eager priest of the power they can have and the false promises. Though they can see the error of their ways they do no repent rather they will take the wrath of their forgotten Lord. And only when an angry God stands before them, with his angels ready, will the priest stand looking at each other, each with their demon in hand, and ask ‘why is god angry at us, what have we done to incur such anger?’ The demons will leave one by one to leave the priest alone to face the anger of their Lord."

" Lucifer has not sent these demons as tricks but the demons come because the priest ask for them. Within each man is the hunger for power and the demons are drawn to this. Lilith and Lucifer has watched the demons go and both now mourns the lose of humanity. For both know what it is like to be at the end of God’s anger. The Christians do not recognize the existence to Lilith but she is there as they all were. What the church now calls the pagan gods. Each stands back now and watches with tears in their eyes. Humans have chosen their gods so the old gods stand back to await their day again."

"Do not think it is only within your religion… Many others are also in peril it is not disbelief that spawns the anger, it is the false use of belief. There has and always will be nonbelievers. They have existed without belief and after we are gone they will survive. Many are thought to be dead and are content to be so. When we are gone they will create a new race to start over again."

" Father tell the Pope that judgement day will soon come if things do not change. Judgement day will be for those who are disrespectful to the one they claim. Your race for the time will go on but not as it has in the past. Your God is angered, as are his angels and even the forgotten gods of the past now stand angered by such neglect and tyranny in the name of their Lord whom they no longer represent. Tell him all that I have told you and let him decide the fate of humanity. I would tell him to speak to other leaders of religion but I know better than that. You foolishly go to war over nothing more than a name change in language. If he will tell him to speak to others, maybe they will listen maybe not. Now go!"

She turns and walks down the hall. Walking out of the cathedral she can see the carriage waiting. As she approaches a man in a dark suit steps out. His long deep brown hair is tied back out of his face but a few stands now stray. His green eyes watch her approach. When he finally speaks he voice is deep yet soft.

" Dyan, is it done?"

"Yes, I told him though I don’t think it will do any good. He will write the letter as I told him but the Pope can not bring about the changes needed. No one can agree on anything and corruption runs too deeply. The church will go on but it will not b the same. They are too far-gone to bring about the true teachings again, the teachings they had when you where young. I am sorry."

She bows her head as he helps her into the carriage and then climbs in behind her. It slowly rolls down the empty streets and disappears into the night.

That night the Priest wrote the letter as he was told, he dared not disobey. Before sending it he found the hag and talked with her. He sent what she had said along with the letter. The letter arrived to the Pope 7 days later. News that the priest was found dead arrived on the 8th day. He had been killed the night he sent the letter. The cause of death appeared to be a large cat attack but there were no reports of sighting of a large cat. The hag was also found dead only a block from the priest. Cause of death: a large cat attack, its speculated the same that attacked the priest.

He was unable to bring about the change needed. No one could agree what for sure needed to be done. It had been too long and hardly anyone could remember the true teachings as they had once been. The church did survive but never will it be as it was meant to be.

The year is 418 AD in Italy. In less than half a century the Dark Age will start in Europe and the people will be tested repeatedly. With failed crops, weak rulers, and invasions from the north and west, various plagues and illnesses the times looked dark and death seemed to be everywhere. The final blow to most is the fall of the Western Roman Empire; of course, the Eastern Empire would survive till 1453, but no longer was Rome the beautiful city it had once been.

Christianity has emerged from Judaism almost 400 years earlier and ever since has come up against opposition in Europe from the native Pagans. At times they will be persecuted and other times when pagans were persecuted. The Dark ages will be a true test to see if it can survive.
